MONOLOGUE COMPETITION- 22 JULY, 2026

On Wednesday, 22 July 2026, the school hosted a Monologue Competition for students of Grades IX to XII in the School Theatre Hall. Centred on the theme "Voices That Must Be Heard," the competition provided a vibrant platform for young performers to showcase their dramatic expression, emotional depth, and commanding stage presence. The event challenged participants to bring original or adapted scripts to life, drawing inspiration from literature, history, contemporary social issues, and personal experiences.

The competition was open to individual participants from Grades IX to XII, with each class nominating up to two representatives selected by their respective class teachers. Each participant delivered a continuous solo dramatic speech of up to two minutes. The performances included original compositions as well as adapted pieces, featuring historical reflections, character portrayals, personal narratives, and social messages aligned with the central theme.

All scripts were memorized, and reading from notes or scripts was strictly prohibited. Performances were delivered in English and were appropriate for a school audience. To ensure that the emphasis remained on theatrical ability, only minimal, readily available props were permitted. The use of elaborate costumes or heavy stage settings was not allowed, creating an equal platform where voice, expression, and performance took centre stage.

The performances were evaluated by the judging panel based on the following criteria:

1. Content & Impact: Relevance to the theme, originality, and emotional or intellectual depth of the script.
2. Voice & Expression: Clarity, diction, vocal modulation, and authentic emotional delivery.
3. Stage Presence: Body language, confidence, poise, and audience engagement.
4. Character Portrayal & Interpretation: Authenticity, creativity, and conviction in bringing the character to life.
5. Overall Performance: Memorability, overall impact, and polish of the presentation.

The Monologue Competition successfully showcased the creative talent, vocal strength, and theatrical potential of the high school students. By portraying diverse historical figures, fictional characters, and voices advocating social change, the participants captivated the audience while demonstrating the power of spoken-word performance. The event stood as a testament to the students' confidence, creativity, and dedication to the dramatic arts.
