About This Activity

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is celebrating the 30th P.N. Panicker National Reading and Digital Reading Month 2025 from June 19 to July 18, in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This year also marks the 80th Reading Celebrations, honouring the legacy of P.N. Panicker, fondly remembered as the Father of the Library Movement in Kerala.

To commemorate this initiative and promote the joy of reading among students, Rajhans Vidyalaya, Andheri West, Mumbai organized a special reading activity on 11th July 2025 as part of the 30th National Reading and Digital Reading Month.

The day began with a special morning assembly, where students took the Reading Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to reading and personal growth. The pledge, inspired by the P.N. Panicker Foundation, read:

“Today I stand and pledge with full faith in my ability to grow through reading and discussions. I pledge to promote the development of my country, Bharat, through judicious reading of books, as well as digital reading, and through right action.”

The pledge aimed to:

  • Inculcate reading habits from an early age,
  • Foster language skills, critical thinking, and creativity,
  • Encourage both traditional and digital reading practices.

As part of the celebration:

  • Students of Std. V watched the story Maddi’s Fridge by Lois Brandt,
  • Students of Std. VI watched Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – Failure to Success through a digital platform.

Both stories were carefully chosen to encourage empathy, resilience, and awareness, while also enhancing student engagement through multimedia learning.

After viewing the stories, students completed a book review worksheet that included:

  • A brief 2–3 lines summary of the story,
  • Meanings of difficult words,
  • Identification of their favourite character.

This integrated activity aligned with NEP 2020, which emphasizes reading as a cornerstone of foundational literacy. It helped students enhance their reading comprehensionvocabulary, and analytical thinking, while fostering a deeper appreciation for both print and digital reading materials.

The celebration at Rajhans Vidyalaya successfully highlighted the power of reading as a transformative tool and reinforced the importance of cultivating a strong reading culture among young learners.
