STD. VIII-FLOWER AND LEAF PRESSING ENGLISH ACTIVITY
About This Activity
To encourage hands-on learning and environmental appreciation, the students of Std. 8 participated in a creative nature preservation project over the past week. The objective was to collect and preserve fallen flora from their local neighbourhoods and create unique, sustainable artwork.
The activity followed a systematic three-stage process:
● Collection: Students gathered fallen flowers and leaves from their gardens or nearby parks, focusing on a variety of shapes and colours.
● Pressing: The collected specimens were carefully placed between the folds of old newspapers and pressed under heavy books for seven days to ensure they were completely dried and flattened.
● Creation: Once dried, the students used these natural materials to design and assemble beautiful greeting cards and wall hangings.
● Artistic Expression: Students showcased immense creativity in their layouts, combining different botanical elements into aesthetically pleasing designs.
● Environmental Awareness: By using only fallen items, students practiced sustainable sourcing and developed a closer bond with nature.
The activity was a great success, allowing students to explore the diverse textures and structures of local plant life. It also promoted several key skills. Waiting for a full week during the drying process taught them the importance of patience and meticulous preparation in craftwork.
The project concluded on 27th April 2026 with a vibrant display of the finished artworks. This initiative successfully blended science and art, reminding everyone that creativity can truly bloom through simple, natural inspiration.
